Totally Killer! Discipline 27-II/ What Planet Is This? Is a real Highlight of Sun Ra's discography. Intense exploratory moog improvisation followed by a rendition of Discipline 27-II howled through a spring reverb! The Dyhan Chohans have spoken to man.
Sun Ra was onto some REAL shit!

Not for audiophiles, for certain. The jams are thick and intense. Essential? Perhaps not. But it must certainly capture the intensity of a live performance of this era. I often wonder, What did the audience look like at some of these shows? The majority of the b-side is filled with some solo Ra Moog excursion, trajectory unknown. Funny how you can take a trip multiple times and still not know where you are going. What Planet Is this?

A brilliant example of those 'far out' live sessions Sun-Ra and his Arkestra have become famous for. The last track on side B (Discipline 27-II) is simply brilliant, with Sun-Ra going mad on the Moog and the Arkestra later jumping in with their primal galactic accompaniment.

Discipline 27-11 is a superb synth trip-out with Ra taking his Moog through its paces on a surreal intergalactic voyage.
I really like this period of his work. The Arkestra gradually join in providing some sympathetic skronk. It's very noisy but great fun.
By the end of the track the vocal refrain "what planet is this?" comes in which made me smile too.
This track must be a variation of the track Discipline on the Sun Ra album Concert For The Comet Kohoutek.
I'm not a fan of RSD - but this was a good release.
