User reviews
the reviews on this are v fun to read. . .
I am listening to this now as I type - what is so special? I have been partying and buying records since 1988 and there is nothing here of any interest - it gets 708 reviews and an average rating of 4.66% which is very impressive - I guess this is mainly from people who weren't there at the beginning because this is a boring track to me with nothing special - maybe like the proverbial rat following the pied piper you must agree with what was written previously - I could neither dance to this or listen to it - it's just annoying - but it goes to show how ignorant of the history of dance music most people are today - a sad reflection of not only our society but how easily people will "like" anything without any real understanding of the history of dance music - don't go against there grain someone might write something negative about you on Facebook - what a shambolic society we live in today - this is sooooo overrated - how the fuck an so many people describe this bas a perfect record - you are so easily pleased today and have no individuality
You don't enjoy a tune, and other people do – therefore, they're ignorant sheep who don't know anything about dance music? Dude, that's some goofy adolescent nonsense. I've been into house music for decades myself, and I happen to like this. My opinion is as legitimate as anyone else's. And so is yours – just remember that it's an opinion. If you go through life demanding that everyone like exactly the same things that you do, in exactly the same way, then you're gonna have a pretty disappointing life.
You sound like you wank dogs. How could you possibly be so old yet still act a teenager lmao.
I've been buying records since 1986, so by your standards my opinion is 2 years more important than yours.Amazing that you'd write this essay just because you don't like a particular 1999 tune that doesn't do it for you.You come across like some pathetic old gatekeeper, trying to make yourself feel important by proclaiming your in-depth "understanding of the history of dance music".Why don't you give the music lovers, who don't give a shit about your opinion, and whether or not this classic fits into your curated "history of dance music" a break.Step away from the decks, step away from the keyboard and get back to flogging off your record collection. It often doesn't take much more than a killer hook or bassline to suck me into a tune, and it has zero to do with its apparent place in dance music history. In summary:You're an embarrassing fucking idiot.
You are right. It is not an overtly groundbreaking tune. It is merely top-end for what it does/attempts to do. That said, your 30 year comedown complaint about other people ("a real understanding of dance music" - what like yours? Elitist and judgmental). Such complaining just makes you sound depressed and like you're sounding a bit of a dick. Maybe do something else. 30 years at anything is enough time to now move on. Maybe travel or something that stimulates you man. Put your records away and get in the game. You honestly seem depressed. And without doubt out of sync with what you claim to know so well. Regardless, be well.
no country for old men :( play something old and chill fam
Someone needs a cuddle. And a new set of ears.
damn man, who hurt u? :/more words needed more words needed
Overcome . . . 2017 and still oven fresh !
It's a great record! I never take it out of the DJ record bag. I originally had the thick 180 gm pressing, but after playing it 30 times I sold it & bought two recent re-presses from Juno(UK). The repress is 140 gm; I wish I kept my old one because I think it's better to travel with & more durable. The thin pressings warp easier.
ff lekker een paar puntjes pakken . . . .
lekker pik . . . . . . . .
I don't get this record (there's always one right?). I just can't connect up the dots between deep house and techno. It sounds like deep house at techno tempo but in a way that negates each genre. And there's the minimal angle too. It is very minimal, but for me good deep music has space not lack of sound elements. It sounds like bits are missing which , on another track, might give you space but I am just not feeling it.
It's a record, slow it down to where you like it.
It goes well with electro records. The synth sounds. The analog nature.
both tracks are in UK mood. first a minimal track with bass mood; then a house track with an ambient electronica mood. and the latter is GREAT!
It is what it is, one can handel it another not. For me well produced electronic Music. Whatever it is, deep or techno, it so good. But another will not like it. That's the way.
This record is absolutely astonishing. Amazing that in 15 years of listening to electronic music I only discovered this for the first time a few weeks ago. Stunning, timeless music. Repress is of a very high quality, mine sounds perfect.
PROPER "deep"! everyone seems to love "Lady Science" (great track and i gotta say, w/o the 'tek mix' this record drops a few points), but personally "Overcome" makes it into many, many more sets of mine. Ford/Hutton/Melchoir was unstoppable in the late 90s/early 00s.
asked deejay.de support, they said repress is coming next week :)
Lady Science is the one!
180 Grams of wax in this Repress... I'm a lucky guy! My copy sounds perfect! =)
Buy recently this record & i must say i am very happy with the quality of the repress sounds awsome plays perfect without cracking noises needle jumps... nothing cristal clear sound ,thank you very much for repress this awsome classic.????????
thank god this tune has been repressed, i own a repress version and its fine, dont know what all the moaning is for, even if your record isn't the clearest, YOU STILL OWN 1 OF THE GREATEST RECORDS EVER!!
Swap you then?
Beautiful EP! How have I not heard this before?Don't hesitate to buy this if you're on the fence about it.
sound is perfectly fine on my copy.
Early Waffle
This thread confirms what I thought - my copy of this is a bit duff...fair bit of audible crackle on the intro to "Overcome" which is a shame. That said my buddy bought the same repress from the same shop and his is fine. Luck of the draw I guess...
No problem with the re press for me. Sound quality is great. An essential house cut
Freaky Hook
Contrary to what the previous reviewer has mentioned about the sound quality on the repress--- the sound quality on this heavy slab of wax is excellent. One of my favorite purchases in recent months and a record I will probably save a spot for in my crate to play out for months to come.
hmmm, don't know who deleted my review. But other people should really know that the quality of the repress is really poor. And I'm not trying to push the price for the original pressing. Anyone who likes can send me 8 euro (what I payed for it) and I'll send him the record though I think it's not fair to sell a record that sounds like it had been played a few hundred times but is actually near mint.
Great to finally see this repressed/re-released.Just got around to pick up my copy at the post office today, this records is amazing and I'm happy to see that the repress is done properly. This repress is solid and thick, and the sound quality is excellent!
Finally repressed!
